MSDE and Quest Alliance Launch the Upgraded Employability Skills Curriculum

This newly developed 120-hour curriculum contains upgraded content on career development, digital literacy, work preparation, self-employment, citizenship, and other essential 21st century skills.

The job market is more competitive now than it has ever been. Employers seek employability skills as crucial qualities in their future employees, along with subject matter expertise.

To aid this, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Quest Alliance have upgraded the Employability Skills curriculum that's offered to millions of young people across India in various skilling programs. This curriculum is being launched on Tuesday, September 6th 2022.

Twelve modules on career development, digital literacy, work preparation, self-employment, citizenship, and other essential 21st century skills are offered in this 120-hour curriculum. These topics will aid young people make the transition from school to the workplace.

To enable its integration across the Ministry's short-and long-term skilling initiatives, the curriculum also has a number of variations lasting 30 hours, 60 hours, or 90 hours. The curriculum is designed to help young people:

  • build a self-learning mindset and 21st-century skills
  • become career-ready in a post-COVID world
  • develop awareness around new careers, such as the gig economy and green jobs
  • bridge the industry-skill gap

In addition to the student workbook, there are also training manuals that offer educators and facilitators a robust pedagogy for efficient teaching. This manual will enable trainers to:

  • impart the curriculum using a blended learning model
  • employ a tech-enabled and activity-based model that uses both online and offline resources
  • help trainers build new skills to build 21st century classrooms
  • empower young people to make informed career decisions

The curriculum will be used by 2.5 million learners from over 15,600 government and private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and will be rolled out from the 2022-2023 academic year. It will be available on the: Bharat Skills website, E-skill India portal, Employability Skills portal and Quest App. 


This upgraded curriculum has been developed by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, National Skills Development Council and Quest Alliance, with support from the National Instructional Media Institute and the Future Right Skills Network
