School Enrich

An overarching purpose of education is to produce responsible, thoughtful and enterprising citizens in a society. In India, education has always been regarded highly; however, historically, access to education in India has been unequal and education imparted has been of questionable quality. Despite the unprecedented efforts by Government and Civil Society for Universalisation of Elementary Education, there is a serious problem that is detracting from access and persistence gains: the daunting and all-encompassing problem of equitable access to quality and relevant education. Responsible and effective use of educational technology tools plays an important role in addressing contemporary issues such as access, quality and equity. Education technology offer the potential for “faster, better and cheaper” delivery of pedagogical content into the learning environment. However, education technology also presents the challenge that it is used appropriately, is pedagogically sound and cost effective and does not result in unintended negative social or economic consequences.

QUEST Alliance is in a unique position to act as a fulcrum for concerted initiatives and as a catalyst to drive a positive vision and direction for ICT interventions in education. QUEST Alliance play an important role in demystifying the usage of technology by exploring and advocating for effective usages of various existing educational technology tools which is easily accessible and adaptable in the constraint environment. QUEST Alliance aims to demonstrate and scale the use of cost effective, replicable and sustainable education technology tools and delivery systems that enhance the quality of teaching and learning. QUEST's work in the space of enriching teaching and learning in schools comprises of following interventions with several leading organizations.

Youth Employability

The new economy and service sector job is fast becoming one of the largest employers of young people. However, as in several other sectors, here is also an acute shortage of skilled human resources available to employers. Civil society organisations and vocational training institutes are attempting to meet the skills gap, but these institutions face a number of problems including locating quality curriculum, trainers, and effective monitoring and evaluation systems. Hence, there is both a need to fill the skills gap of thousands of Indian young people and to enhance capacities of these institutions to impart quality training to youth.

“More than a Job” is an initiative designed and initiated by QUEST Alliance in partnership with various stakeholders including Corporates, Governments and Civil Society Organisations by imparting relevant knowledge and skills to young people, while developing the capacity of local organizations to deliver the training. However, the essence of the “More than a Job” program is to look beyond job placement with a more holistic approach, which would facilitate lifelong personal and professional development. The idea is to create strategies to drive positive impact in areas such as on-the-job learning and growth, employee motivation, employee retention and long-term career planning. The broad visions of this program are:

  • To bring about significant improvement in quality of teaching and learning methodologies i.e. stronger pedagogy and better facilitation/training
  • To create a sustainable model as well as tools to enable scale
  • To expand project scope in order to include continuous learning and capacity development, both on-the-job and off-the-job.

Over the last four years, QUEST has been implementing various pilot projects reaching out to marginalized youth across India through this initiative.
