The Skills for Youth (SkY) program is being lead by the International Youth Foundation (IYF) in partnership with QUEST Alliance, supported by USAID. It is one half of the larger MEGA-SkY project in India being anchored by EDC. As part of the SkY (Skills for Youth) initiative of the project, the QUEST team is on a series of field visits to gauge interests and potential among various state & district level Government-run institutes. Most recently, Amitav Nath from QUEST visited Sonabhadra district, the 2nd largest in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and the city of Kanpur. Fruitful meetings with district magistrates and Advanced Training Institutes (ATIs) were the outcomes.
These visits are the first steps in finalizing potential pilot sites for the SkY initiative. The project will be implemented with a group of knowledge partners and various government and non-governmental institutions. Career counseling, vocational guidance and career planning exercises has been identified as an immediate attention to help these disadvantaged youth in understanding their aptitudes, personality, interests and abilities for SkY intervention
